Missing All The Signals
My boss walks up to my coworker:
Boss: “[Coworker], you can sign, right? Sign language?”
Coworker: “Yup! Need me to sign for someone?”
Boss: “Meeting in the boardroom. I need you for the guy the client is sending over.”
Coworker: “Strange that they didn’t mention they needed someone to sign for them, but good thing I’m here. I’ll come over.”
They both leave, and I continue with my work. [Coworker] comes walking back a few minutes later.
Me: “That was a quick meeting.”
Coworker: “The guy was blind, not deaf.”
Me: “You’re kidding?”
Coworker: “Wish I was. [Boss] didn’t realise that blind people could just… I don’t know, speak? Worst part was I told [Boss] that there’s no point in signing as the client wouldn’t see it anyway, and [Boss] laughed and said good thing the client can’t hear what we’re saying right now.”
I just stare.
Coworker: “The client found it funnier than I did.”
