Mischief Managed, Part 3
I’m an employee of the supermarket but I am currently buying food on my break and chatting with a colleague. A customer comes up to me:
Customer: “I need you to approve my alcohol at the self-checkout.”
She can quite clearly see I am in line and buying food.
Me: “I’m not allowed to help you because I’m on my break but my colleagues are more than happy to—”
Customer: “—Well you shouldn’t be standing here then!”
Me: “Where should I be standing to buy my food if not in line?”
Customer: “I don’t know, but not here!”
Me: *Steps an inch to the right.* “Is that better?”
Customer: “You’re being belligerent!”
Me: “And you’ve been corrected but instead of accepting that you got something wrong you’ve gone with lashing out instead. It’s sad that you’re this sensitive about it.”
Customer: “Where is your manager!”
Me: “The manager is on break at the moment but if you wait here, I’ll make sure they come and find you.”
I buy my sandwich, take my fifteen minutes to eat it, check my phone, and then walk back out onto the shop floor and find the customer still waiting.
Me: *Affixing my store manager’s name tag.* “Now, I heard you wanted to speak to me?”
The customer sees my name tag, glares at me, and f***s off.
