Miscalculated Your Calculus

| Learning | May 17, 2015

(I’m transferring into the local state university. I’ve already done a year at another four-year school, and am talking to an advisor about credit transfer and other entry requirements. She has my transcript in front of her. It’s important to note that, in high school, I took AP Calculus, and in my first college, I took Calc III, which is on my transcript.)

Counselor: “So, the only thing left is to schedule your algebra exam.”

Me: “Excuse me?”

Counselor: “It’s a requirement for all students to have basic algebra proficiency.”

(At this point, I take the transcript from her, find the CALCULUS III entry, turn it back around to her, and point it out to her.)

Me: “This says I took and passed Calc III; do I really need to take an algebra exam?”

(The exam was waived.)
