Mexican Longhorn

| Learning | December 10, 2016

(Before we write argumentative essays in American history, our teacher holds a class debate to help us decide what our opinion is. This particular debate is on whether the Mexican-American war was justified on behalf of the US. This unfolds after one student is called.)

Student: “Mexico invited Americans into their territory knowing that they wouldn’t follow their customs. That’s like…”

(The student is clearly struggling to find a proper analogy.)

Student: “That’s… That’s like inviting a… dragon to an iceberg.”

(Cue laughter from the class, including the student, who tries to go on with his argument.)

Student: “Because you know the dragon would melt it down!”

(The class continues laughing.)
