(These are two students behind me, complaining to each other that our Japanese class is tough. Student #1 is a blonde surfer girl; Student #2 is a geek chick.)
Student #1: “You’ve had [Professor] before, right? Does she grade hard on exams?”
Student #2: “I had her so long ago, I don’t remember. I should have taken Spanish; that would have been easier since I speak it.”
Student #1: “How do you know Spanish? Is your maid Mexican or something?”
Student #2: “…My mom is Mexican.”
(Everyone within earshot gasps, including the professor.)
