Masculinity More Fragile Than The Laptops

, , , , , , , | Working | September 1, 2022

My workplace gave everyone laptops to work from home instead of the office for the time being. They came with these laptop bags that were shaped like rectangles with arm straps so you could carry them over one arm.

The male employees absolutely refused to carry the laptops correctly because the laptop bags kind of sort of looked like purses. Whenever we came to the office, all the boys would carry the laptops straight out in front of them with both hands as if they were receiving a tablet with the ten commandments from God. This risked dropping them and breaking them when trying to open doors and such. When told to carry the laptops in a safe way, they refused, saying they didn’t want them to look like purses.

Now that we’re returning to the office, half the people still hold their laptops like zombies seeking brains, clustered around the glass doors they can’t open.
