Managed That Situation
I’ve recently transferred to another store to become a manager. I’m still learning the ropes, but the other managers often tell me I’m doing great. I’m helping out up front since there’s a line.
Customer: “Ugh, this store is awful!”
Me: “I’m sorry to hear that; is there anything you couldn’t find?”
Customer: “Yes! Your store is so horribly laid out! Everything is impossible to find!”
Me: “Well, I can help you find anything you’re still missing if you’d like.”
Customer: “Ugh, no! I just want out of this awful place!”
I ring her out. I even give her an extra coupon to make up for it. When I hand her the receipt, I add on a “have a great day,” which I guess was a mistake.
Customer: “I want to talk to your manager!”
My coworkers start giggling. I give her the biggest, friendliest smile possible.
Me: “Ma’am… I am the manager.”
She turns and leaves. The customer at the next register is laughing.
Me: “Wow, I knew it would feel good to say it, but not that good!”
