Making Sense Of Nothing

I work in a restaurant. The manager and I are discussing something work-related near the back when a waiter comes over:

Waiter: “Customer wants to complain.”

Manager: “About what?”

Waiter: “She doesn’t like how people can come in through the restaurant door.”

We all share a look.

Waiter: “Don’t ask. I tried to get more, but that’s the best I could get. I have no f****** clue.”

Manager: *Sighs.* “This should be interesting.”

He walks over to talk to the customer. He comes back a few minutes later.

Manager: “So apparently, she’s fine with people leaving, but it’s dangerous when people come in the door, so we should “figure out a way to really fix that”.”

Me: “What did you tell her?”

Manager: “That we’d do what we can.”

Me: “Which is?”

Manager: “Nothing. We can do nothing. Now, where were we?”
