Making Her Intentions As Clear As Glass

, , , , | Working | May 27, 2025

I’m a customer at the checkout. My cashier is doing her job diligently, but I can tell she’s uncomfortable (from what I assume is being very heavily pregnant) so I am trying to be a quick and efficient customer.

A manager-type walks over with a clipboard.

Manager: “[Cashier’s Name], I know your shift is over in twenty minutes, but—”

Cashier: “—if you’re going to ask me to extend my shift, I will tell you now that I would rather gargle glass.”

Manager: “…but… would you like to leave on time with no changes to your shift whatsoever?”

The manager backed away sheepishly after that, hopefully reassessing how wise a choice it was to ask an annoyed and pregnant woman to extend her shift.

I was very happy to be that cashier’s last customer! I hope she and baby are doing well!
