Making Calls And Taking Names

, , | Right | September 18, 2018

(The phone rings and my coworker takes the call.)

Caller: “You’ve charged too much on my bill!”

(My coworker calmly pulls up her bill, goes through each charge, and confirms they are all valid, and the caller gets more rude and demanding.)

Caller: “What do you mean, you won’t take my charges off?! You’re the rudest person! What is your name, b****?”

(Note: we are allowed to hang up when the caller swears. My coworker does exactly that.)

Coworker: “I’m taking a break.” *leaves*

(Right after she leaves, the caller calls back. I pick it up.)

Caller: *in a fake-nice tone* “Hello, um, I just want you to know that you’ve given me such good service with my bill, so, um, may I please have your name?”

Me: *not thinking* “My name is [My Name].”

Caller: “Thanks, b****!” *hangs up*

(Having worked in customer service for years, I quickly went to the owner and explained exactly what had just happened. Pretty soon, he got a bad review, saying that “[My Name]” had been really rude, cursing and swearing at the caller. Since I was able to explain beforehand, I wasn’t punished! If I hadn’t acted, I sure would’ve been. Lady, next time get the right person!)
