Looking For The Top Dog Of Dinners
A customer comes in looking frustrated and holding a small bag of dog food.
Customer: “I bought this last time, and my dog hates it. What do you recommend instead?”
Me: “Sorry to hear your dog didn’t like it! We have a few other options. What’s your dog’s usual preference? Wet food, dry food, or something with a specific protein?”
Customer: “He’s really picky. I’m telling you, he refuses to eat anything that’s not premium food. I’ve tried other brands, and he just turns his nose up at it.”
Me: “Some dogs can be a bit choosy. We do have several premium options with different proteins and flavours. Could you tell me if your dog has any food sensitivities?”
Customer: “Yeah, well, he’s picky, but he’s spoiled. I don’t know why I put up with it.”
Me: *Laughs.* “It sounds like he’s got you trained, not the other way around.”
We both laugh, and I end up recommending something that has a different flavour profile but doesn’t come with the super-premium price tag.
Customer: “I’ll get it, but if he turns his nose up at this one, I’m getting a cat instead.”
I can’t help it, but I think I make a face.
Customer: “What is it?”
Me: “Oh… nothing. It’s just that, no, I’m sure it’s fine. I am sure cats have no problem telling you what they want… and they definitely won’t let you spoil them.”
Customer: “Hmm… yeah… fine, I’ll get some fish. Those things aren’t fussy!”
I saw him again a week later, buying the same brand of dog food I recommended. Hopefully, that means his best friend liked what he got!
