Monday Is Not On The Cards

(My college requires a student ID for testing. Before you take a test, you “sign in” with your ID. A machine scans the barcode on your card, and then they give you your test and you go take it. For some reason, my card won’t scan. After I finished my test, I went down to Student Services to see if anyone could help me with my card. It is Friday afternoon, and I’ve just finished my last final exam for the semester. I’m about to go home for break.)

Me: “Uh, excuse me? I was just in the testing center and my Student ID wouldn’t scan. Who should I talk to about it?”

Employee: “Your card wouldn’t scan? Wow, I didn’t even know they scanned cards down there.”

Me: “Yeah, mine’s not working but it has before. Should I get my card replaced, or—”

Employee: “I’ve never heard of this happening before. I don’t know what to do. Uh… come back on Monday.”
