Listening Is Taxing

(I am video chatting with my husband. He has just asked me about my day and I am chattering away.)

Me: “Hon?”

Husband: “Yes?”

Me: “Are you listening to me?”

Husband: “Mostly…”

Me: “What are you looking at?”

Husband: “A pretty girl.” *his pet name for me*

Me: “What is distracting you?”

Husband: “Nothing right now.”

Me: “What was distracting you before when I asked you a question?!”

Husband: “Um…regressive tax systems in the United States.”

Me: “Are you kidding me? Taxes are more interesting than what I’m talking about?”

Husband: “Well…it’s more the effect they have on the economy…”
