Learning Curve Ahead
A customer at our airport car rental place is looking to rent a car, so we’re going through the paperwork.
Me: “And may I see your licence?”
Customer: “Ooooh yeah, I don’t have one of those.”
Me: “You don’t have a driver’s license?”
Customer: “Nah, never got one.”
Me: “Sir, I cannot rent you a vehicle without a driver’s license.”
Customer: “So I can buy a car without a driver’s license, but I can’t rent one?!”
Me: “Sir, I can’t speak for every dealership, but there’s nothing stopping you from buying a car, but without insurance, they wouldn’t let you drive it out of the lot, and you can’t get insurance without a license.”
Customer: “Well, that’s just stupid.”
Me: “That’s the law.”
Customer: “My dad lets me drive the pickup to Costco all the time.”
Me: “Because he’s teaching you how to drive and is sitting in the passenger seat, I would hope.”
Customer: “Uh, no? He sends me to Costco because he’s too lazy to go himself.”
Me: “Sir, without a driver’s license, that is very illegal.”
Customer: “Since when?!”
Me: “In this state, maybe a hundred years?”
Customer: “Oh, so it wasn’t something stupid that Obama did?”
He did not drive a vehicle off our lot that day…
