Learn How To Espresso Yourself In A Way That Makes Sense
I am training a new server, and she is taking a dessert order for a table. She asks the customers if they would like an espresso or a cappuccino with their desserts. One of the customers, who has been condescending the entire meal and talking down to us, responds.
Customer: *Haughtily.* “No, I won’t be having espresso here. I’m a francophone.”
They give us a smug look, assuming we don’t know what the word means.
Trainee: *Shrugs.* “Okay, just the desserts then.”
After we walk away from the table, my trainee turns to me.
Trainee: “What the h*** does speaking French have to do with ordering espresso?”
Me: “I think he meant to say Francophile, but I have no idea what that has to do with anything either.”
