Knows Zip About Zip Codes
(I work at a retail clothing store that has a website for online shopping. I am working customer service one day when I get this call.)
Me: “Hi. How can I help you?”
Customer: “Hi. I’m filling out an order on your website and I need help with something.”
Me: “Okay, great. What is it?”
Customer: “What are these five numbers by my address?”
Me: “What, ma’am?”
Customer: *growing irritated* “The five numbers by my address!”
Me: “Sorry, ma’am, that is your zip code.”
Customer: “My what?!”
Me: “Your zip code. The area code, it’s five numbers? No?”
Customer: “I don’t understand!”
Me: “Are you sure, miss? I can—“
Customer: *to someone in the background* “A zip code? No, I don’t have a clue what that is!” *muffled voice* “No, I don’t believe you! God didn’t put you on this Earth to lie to your grandmother!” *to me* “Sorry, dear, I still don’t quite understand.”
Me: “It’s okay, ma’am. A zip code is th—“
Customer: *to the person in background* “You are lying, you evil girl!” *click*
(I still don’t know to this day if she ever found out what a zip code is.)
