Kid Logic Makes As Much Sense As Anything Else
This story takes place in the UK, where people drive on the left. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when it happened, but I know I was very young — somewhere around four or five, I guess.
My mother and I were driving home from the shops when I suddenly piped up from my child seat in the back.
Me: “Can’t we drive on that side of the road?” *Pointing to the right*
What I meant by that was, “I’m bored with the view out of this window, and I’d like you to do a U-turn so I can see the view on the other side.” Since I was so young, the fact that this would entail going right back the way we’d come — probably breaking a couple of laws in the process — never crossed my mind. My mother, however, took it to mean, “Hey, why do we always drive on the left?”
Mother: “We can’t do that, [My Name], because we’re in England. Americans drive on that side of the road.”
Me: “Oh! So, all the people on that side of the road—” (You know, the oncoming traffic.) “—are Americans here on their holidays!”
There was a long pause.
Mother: “…Yes, that’s absolutely right.”
I don’t think she could face trying to explain it!
