Justice Is Served

My girlfriend used to work at a McDonald’s ages ago, when a new one opened in our part of the city. A man walks up to the counter and hands over a credit card.

Customer: “I want to feed the homeless with this. All day.”

My Girlfriend: “I’m sorry… what?”

Customer: *Holding up the card.* “Put meals on this. Anyone homeless who comes in today eats for free.”

My Girlfriend: “Uh… let me get my manager.”

The manager comes over.

Manager: “Sir, are you serious?”

Customer: “Absolutely.”

Manager: “You’re authorizing us to charge meals to your card?”

Customer: “As many as it takes.”

Manager: “We’ll need to verify your ID and put a pre-authorization on the card.”

Customer: “Whatever you need.”

After some paperwork, the card is authorized for up to $5,000, and the agreement is that every homeless person who comes in and asks gets one combo meal for free, on the understanding that this is a one-day-only event.

Manager: “All set.”

Customer: “Great.”

Seems the dude went around town saying there were free meals at the new McDonald’s to all the homeless, as we had them coming in all day to eat.

By the end of my girlfriend’s shift:

Coworker: “How much is on the tab now?”

Manager: “About twenty-two hundred dollars.”

The next day…

Coworker: “Did the guy ever come back?”

Manager: “Nope.”

My Girlfriend: “Not even to check on it?”

Manager: “Nope.”

Coworker: “So some random guy paid thousands of dollars to feed homeless people and vanished?”

Manager: “Yep.”

My Girlfriend: “Was the guy’s name Bruce Wayne?”
