Just Install The Flux Capacitor And Call It A Day!
One of the many departments is having a complex firewall issue that was affecting the finance department receiving invoices. Because this involves MONEY, we’re on it as a priority. Three of us huddled around a computer trying to resolve the issue, which isn’t going fast enough for one of the directors:
Director: “What are you all doing?!”
Coworker: “Trying to figure out what the problem is.”
Director: “Stop trying to figure out what the problem is and just fix it!”
Cue some blank stares from all of us.
Director: “What’s taking so long?!”
Coworker: “Well, first we gotta figure out why it’s broken, because it’s not supposed to be. Then we gotta figure out how to fix it without breaking everything else. Then we actually have to do the work to fix it.”
Director: “Well… how long is it gonna take?!”
Coworker: “Could be end of today, could be a week.”
Director: “You have until midday!”
Coworker: “Then it could be four and a half days late. Talking to you will make it later.”
The director runs off and grumbles to our boss, who tells him to “leave them alone and let them get on with it”. We do end up fixing it by the end of the day!
