(I am teaching English to high-schoolers in Japan. In this exercise, students are asked to talk about their siblings.)
Student: “This is my older brother… he is…” *thinks for a moment* “He is Parkinson’s.”
Me: *taken aback* “What?!”
Student: “You know? Parkinson’s!” *he waves his arms vigorously in the air to either side of him*
Me: “I… I don’t think I follow.”
Student: “He is in band! He plays drum… plays drums! You know! Parkinson’s!”
Me: “Oh. You mean he plays percussion…”
