It’s A Dog-Gone Conclusion

(We have just gotten a new dog, who likes to chew on everything. One day, he decides to chew up my homework.)
Teacher: “[My Name] why don’t you have your homework?”
Me: “My dog ate it.”
Teacher: “[My Name], I’m concerned about you. You’re a smart girl and I know you know I’m not falling for it.”
Me: “No, really! He ran off with it and chewed it up!”
Teacher: “Do I have to contact your parents?”
(I give up and just turn in my homework pass, which I had been hoping to save.)
Teacher: “Next time, at least think of a more creative excuse.”
