It Should Be A Comfort(er) To Her That They Didn’t Call The Cops!
Some guests coming through our self-checkout do what we call ticket switching. They put the tag of a cheaper item on a more expensive item and scan it so they can say, “Oh, well, I scanned it!” or, “You watched me scan it!”
I was working the self-checkouts, and our security asked me to watch this particular guest, suspecting her of ticket switching. When she started to leave, I asked for her receipt because the price was nowhere close to what it should have been for the two big comforters she had bought.
Customer: “Well, you saw me scan them!”
Me: “Oh, let me just double-check.”
Sure enough, the item she had “scanned” was only $15, and those comforters are at least $75 each.
Me: “Ma’am, you can’t take these comforters. You can have the [items] you scanned if you want, but not what’s in your cart.”
She left all pissy.
