(My friend and I are texting. He’s just sent me a screenshot from a virtual cat game he’s been playing; the cat is named “Fred” and its personality is listed as “Lady-killer”. It immediately reminds me of Fred from Scooby-Doo, so I try to reference that, but…)

Me: “Is this the scoody doa”

Friend: “What? The scoody doa?”

Me: “I was gonna type the scooby dos but it got a little messed up so I just went with it.”

Friend: “The scooby dos, my favourite program.”

(Note that DOS is a type of computer operating system.)

Me: “You can scooby do it.”

(A minute passes before I text him again.)

Me: “I just realised you were making a joke about DOS, which is hilarious, because I’m a software development student.”

Friend: “It’s okay, it’s late.”

Me: “I thought you meant like a motivational program.”

Friend: “Okay, it’s really late.”

Me: “It’s not. It’s 10:25PM.”

Friend: “I’m trying to help you.”

Me: “I know what I did.”
