Is This Not Always Right… Or Not Always Working?!
I’m hired to work temporarily at a superstore. Grocery, electronics, home goods, they’ve got pretty much everything.
I’m restocking some items when a customer asks me:
Customer: “Hey. Where d’ya keep the drugs?”
So I guide him to the pharmacy section.
Customer: “No. Not the medicine. The drugs.”
Me: “Um?”
Customer: “The ganja. The horse. The coke. The weed. The drugs man, where do you keep the drugs?”
Me: “We, uh, we don’t.”
Customer: “Ryan said I could get a dime bag of E here, you saying you guys don’t got that?”
Me: “I don’t know Ryan.”
Abruptly, the customer pats me on the back, causing me to shy away.
Customer: “Good girl.”
Me: *Internally.* “Yuck.”
Me: *Externally.* “Is there anything else I can help you with?”
Customer: “Actually, I’m your manager’s boss. The last person we hired was secretly selling drugs on the side, so I wanted to test you.”
Me: “Okay?”
Customer/Manager: “You passed. Have a nice day.”
Of course, I reported the interaction to my manager, and they grumbled and told me not to worry about it, so… I’m glad I’m only going to be here a few months before I move on.
