Inventive Name Choices

(My sister and her fiancé are huge geeks and fans of the inventor Nikola Tesla. Mum and sister are talking about baby names. Our Russian cousin’s name is Axel but we call him Axa. Note that in Czech Republic, Nikola is usually used as girl name.)

Sister: “We want to name our first son Nikola.”

Mum: “Nikola? If you call him in public everyone will think you are looking for a girl.”

Sister: “Yes, but it’s originally a boy’s name and we like it.”

Mum: “But it’s used as a girl’s name!”

Me: “Come on, mum! It’s still better than Axa. When I called him in the park everyone thought I was looking for a dog.”
