In Europe, They Get Guuurms Of Ham
Customer: “Do you have off-the-bone ham?”
Me: “We have a few different brands. Did you have a brand in mind?”
The customer seems confused, flipping around on her phone and mumbling.
Customer: “Elbee-el. Do you have Elbee’el?“
I have never heard of a brand that even remotely sounds like that — nothing that we carry. After a couple of tries, she shows me a list. The ham in question is listed as “1 lb off-the-bone ham”.
Me: “That’s one pound of ham, ma’am.“
She seemed a little embarrassed. While she could be one of the ten thousand, she was at least in late middle age and had no accent that would suggest she was from a different country, so I don’t know how she couldn’t know what 1 lb was.
