If Push Comes To Shove… Still Not Getting It

I worked in a toy shop once for a temporary Christmas job. We had a shelf at the back of the store with two types of push scooters, one with lights and one without.

Leading up to Christmas on a busy day, a woman and her son come up to me.

Mum: “So, the scooter with the lights…”

Me: “Yes, madam?”

Mum: “Is it faster, because it’s more expensive?”

Me: “Uh, no. It’s only as fast as the person is pushing it. That model is more expensive because it has lights, and the other one doesn’t.”

Mum: “But which one is faster?”

Her son, who must have been around twelve years old, just looked at me, and he knew exactly what I was thinking, that his mum was just not getting it.

Son: “Mum, they don’t have engines. They don’t go without me pushing it.”

Mum: “Oh. Well, fine then, let’s pick one out for you. Oh, look, that one has stripes! Does that make it faster?”
