“I Don’t Want To” Is A Totally Valid Reason
My coworkers and I work hard and drink harder. After one too many hangovers and questionable decisions, I decided to hang up my beer goggles and opt out of these rowdy nights. [Coworker] noticed my absence the first night.
Coworker: “Where were you last night?”
Me: “At home.”
Coworker: “Why?”
Me: “I didn’t feel like going out.”
Coworker: “What kind of bulls*** is that?”
Me: “I just didn’t want to go.”
Coworker: “You missed $2 shots!”
Me: “I just don’t really feel like drinking. I don’t want to be the party pooper who refuses to drink, so I didn’t go.”
Coworker: “Are you in AA or something?”
Me: “No.”
Coworker: “Are you pregnant?!”
Me: *Firmly* “No.”
Coworker: “Jesus. Quitting on us… I can’t believe it.”
Me: “[Coworker], I’d like to get back to my job, please.”
[Coworker] retreated to his own work but kept bringing up how boring I was until I finally snapped and told him to leave me alone. Now nobody invites me out to the bar, which really isn’t that bad; I’m saving money and not waking up with regrets!
