How To Win The War Against Telemarketers, Part 13

, | Working | April 18, 2016

(I’ve been getting the same telemarketer call on my cell phone, wanting to install a free home security system in my house, for at least two weeks now, despite having repeatedly told the callers that I’m not interested and asking them to please take me off their lists, and I’m pretty sick of it. I’m driving to work early one morning, I’ve had a rough start to my day, and I’m not in the mood to deal with stupid things like this. My cell phone rings and my car’s Bluetooth automatically picks up the call. I see the telemarketer’s number on my stereo screen and I decide to have some fun since I’m sick of being nice:)

Me: “Hello?”

Telemarketer: “Hello! This is [Name] with [Company]. We’d like to offer you a [Home Security System] valued at over $5,000 for free! All you have to do is display our sticker in your home window!”

Me: “I’m sorry, I’m not the homeowner.”

Telemarketer: “Oh, well, can I speak to the homeowner, please?”

Me: *feigning panic* “Oh, no, no, that’s not a good idea. They don’t know that I live here.”

(Silence.)

Telemarketer: *very quickly* “Have a nice day, ma’am.” *click*

(They never called back, and I started my shift with a good laugh!)
