Hope For Humanity? It’s In The Cards, Part 2

, , | Hopeless | September 4, 2016

(My husband and I are in line at the dollar store buying some cards for Mother’s Day. There is a middle-aged black lady behind us in line.)

Lady: *to me* “Are you a mom?”

Me: *nervous laughter* “No. Someday, maybe.”

Lady: *pulls out her wallet and hands a couple dollars to the cashier* “I’m going to pay for them.”

Me: *and Husband* “Oh, you don’t have to do that!”

Lady: “Are you telling me what I can do with my money? I can do whatever I want with my money, and I’m going to pay for your cards.”

Me: *and Husband* “Thank you!”

(We end up paying it forward by paying for the man behind us. As we’re getting ready to leave the store, the lady asks my husband to help her carry her bags to her car. My husband agrees and we carry her bags through the rain to her car. She is very grateful.)

Me: “Have a nice day. God bless!”

Lady: “You, too!”
