Hold Back On That Volunteering

(My mom has been volunteering in the schools since I was six. During my seventh and eighth grade years, I had the same language arts teacher who got to know my mom by visiting her in the library when my mom volunteers. My mom has done several other things for this teacher such as helping with organization of papers and parties. The middle school has open house the same night as the high school, so my dad takes my younger brother to the open house while my mom goes with me.)

Teacher: *sees my dad* “Good, you’re here! Where’s [Mom]?”

Dad: “She’s at the high school open house with [My Name].”

Teacher: “Aw, phooey. I should have recommended that they hold back [My Name] for a year.”
