His Curiosity Tries To Kill The Cat

(My dad is a professor of wildlife and fisheries at the local college, and one of his coworkers, another professor, has come over to chat. We’re sitting in the living room when our new kitten, only a few months old, wanders in and goes to investigate the stranger.)

Coworker: *picks up the kitten* “I love cats. They’re the most interesting animal.”

(He flips her so that her back is facing the floor, about a foot and a half high.)

Coworker: “They always land on their feet!”

(Predictably, he dropped her. She landed on her back, looking very confused, rolled over, and ran away from the professor. She didn’t come out until he was gone!)
