He’s Forking Hungry

| Related | July 22, 2015

(We live on a small family farm. My sister, who lives elsewhere, has a young boy with autism. His current fixation is silverware; he will take forks and spoons out of the drawers and play with them alongside his toys. My sister is visiting, and we are preparing dinner when we realize we haven’t seen my nephew for a while.)

Sister: “Where’s [Nephew]?”

(We look out the window. My nephew is outside with a fork in his hand, yelling and chasing the chickens across the yard.)

Me: “Geez, [Sister], don’t you ever feed that kid?”

(We laughed. My nephew eventually came back inside. No chickens were harmed.)
