Hard Of Earring

I am serving a table.

Customer: “I like your earrings!”

Me: “Thank you!”

Customer: “Are you giving them away?”

Me: “Oh, uh… no.”

Customer: “Can I have them?”

Me: “Well, they were a gift so I’d like to keep them.”

That customer is silent the rest of the night. After they leave, having paid $300 for the table, there is a single five left as a tip, with a note.

Note: “Would have tipped more if you’d given me the earrings!”
