Gravimetric Distortions On Aisle Four, Part 2
A customer is picking up lots of glass candles on our shelves, removing the lids, sniffing them, and placing them back on the shelf. She slides a candle into her growing discard pile, which dislodges a whole bunch, sending three glass candles shattering to the floor.
She looks at me, an employee who definitely saw what happened. She appears guilty for less than a second before getting all defensive.
Customer: “These candles were badly shelved!”
Me: “I saw you move them all around, ma’am.”
Customer: “They still shouldn’t be able to fall like that!”
Me: “If you push them off the shelf, they will fall. That’s not on us.”
Customer: “Then the store should find a way to stop it from happening!”
Me: “We can’t break the rules of gravity, ma’am.”
Customer: “Then maybe you should have less of that… that… gravity!”
