Grand Theft Pranker

(I am working at a restaurant taking calls. A call comes in and these are the proceedings:)

Caller: “I’m going to kick your a**.”

(I immediately recognize the voice as Niko Bellic, an eastern European man that plays the main character in very famous video game GTA IV. I figure that the caller is using sound clips from the game, as, “I am going to kick your a**,” is one of Niko’s most used lines.)

Me: “Niko! Is that you? Want to get some drinks?”

Caller: *in Niko voice* “F*** OFF!”

Me: “Okay then.” *click*

I wonder what they were trying to accomplish with the call?

    • Durandal_1707

They wanted to make sure OP’s refrigerator was running.

      • Phil Adler

Nope, but I’ll be he has Prince Albert in a can.

    • Mars Jenkar

Best guess? They were going to use appropriate voice clips to mess with the person at the other end. They didn’t count on the other person recognizing the voice.

    • BMK

They use a soundboard loaded with clips from the game and screw with the person on the other end until either they get fed up or realize what’s going on. It’s a popular youtube prank.

      • Katrin Schirmer

luckily for OP that realization happened immediately.

Funny prank most likely. I had a radio station do that to me years ago. They called one of my Florida hotels using Arnold clips. Since that hotel doesn’t have a res department the call goes through to the center, and I got it. I thought something was off, but it took me until the name that they gave was John Connor that I realized what was happening. I played along, killing myself laughing on the mute button until I got to a credit card number which they wouldn’t give me, and then I ended the call. They called back and got a coworker and confessed that it was a prank – they’d been doing that to a number of local buisnesses, but weren’t expecting to get someone from so far away. Funniest part was that call was recorded and monitored, and apparently was played to new hires for years after. The caller couldn’t hear me laughing my ass off, but the recording certainly could.

*69 (or the Canadian equivalent) to get the number then call it periodically to invite him to go bowling.

  • Ace_of_Judea

Please tell me you did a Roman Belic imitation.

  • cylon_toast

Ehhh cousin! Do you want to go bowling?

    • Samilee

Took the words right out of my mouth hahaha

  • Denton Young

Reminds me of the scene from Home Alone where Kevin is using clips from the gangster movie to talk to the guy delivering the pizza.

    • QueenCheetah

Or the sequel- “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.”

  • Kitty

“Man, Nico. I told you, don’t call me at work about the drug deals. They can trace the call here.”

  • ShamrockStreak

If it was me, I’d have drunkenly shouted “YELLOW CAR!” back at him.

  • steeledminer616

    “Alright, maybe another time then.”
