Gotta Hand It To Her

(I am a 13-year-old girl and my sister is 15. We’re doing some paperwork in an office with our mom. I look more like our dad: dark skinned, beady eyes with glasses, and I wear my hair in a bun. My sister looks more like mom: light skin, big eyes, and she wears her hair loose. People often comment how we don’t look alike at all. My sister is finishing with the receptionist.)

Receptionist: “All set, dear! Now you can go! I must ask, though… You should be a model! You’re really stunning!”

Sister: “Thanks!”

Receptionist: *to me* “Okay, now your turn, dear.”

(We finish up with my paperwork and she says:)

Receptionist: “I must say, dear…”

Me: *hopefully* “Yesss?”

Receptionist: “…your hands are beautiful! You should be a hand model!”

(She probably meant well but I was still crushed.)
