Giving Her A Run For Her Cali Money

(I am at my mom’s, picking up my two boys. She always likes to talk about Facebook posts people make. Since I am a history teacher, she asks me about a possible abbreviation.)

Mom: “So, someone posted they could get a job in Cali for $75 an hour. That’s an awful lot for someone to pay. Cali must be rich. Where is Cali?”

Me: *pausing to let this sink in* “Mama, that means California… Cali is short for CALIFORNIA!”

Mom: “Oh, I thought it was some new foreign country.”
