I work at a grocery store that prides itself on customer service. Naturally, we offer many free prizes for kids, one of which is stickers. A man walks up with his children and I immediately ask him a question.

Me: “Sir, can they have stickers?”

The man immediately looks shocked and speaks in a serious tone.

Man: “They’re not old enough to smoke!”

I stare at him, shocked and confused. I simply reach for the stickers and hold them out.

The man realizes I didn’t ask if his children could have cigarettes and suddenly calms down.

Man: “Oh, stickers. Yeah, they can have stickers.”
