I work the fish counter at the grocery store.
Customer: “Is the salmon gluten-free?”
Me: “It’s just plain salmon, ma’am. We haven’t added any extra ingredients to it.”
Customer: “No, but was the salmon gluten-free? Like, did it eat gluten when it was alive?”
Me: “You’re asking if a fish, which lived in water, ate gluten, which comes from fields of wheat?”
Customer: “I’m just trying to be thorough.”
Me: “The salmon is gluten-free, ma’am.”
Customer: “Cool. Now what about the cod?”
It took a while to explain to her that none of our fish were invited to the wheatfields for whatever feast she imagined happened there.
