Forget I Said Anything

(I am trying to apply for a PhD, but I am getting nowhere with the application letter. My boyfriend has come to help and cheer me up. The professor I am applying to used to know me by name because I worked for him for several semesters and was visiting all his classes. But the last thesis I worked on didn’t turn out the way I hoped and I am still embarrassed and unhappy about my performance. To this day, it horrifies me to think the professor would judge me based only on that single event.)

Boyfriend: “Okay, what about if you try to stir his memory so that he remembers your last thesis presentation?”

Me: “Oh, God, no, not that…”

Boyfriend: “Oh, no, no, no. I’m sure he forgot about you completely. He won’t be able to remember you.”

Me: *with huge sad eyes and whimpering* “He forgot me…?”

Boyfriend: “No, I mean, ehm… s***.”
