Five-Year-Olds And Lego: What Could Go Wrong?
My mum is in the hospital, so we are bringing her some flowers, grapes, and a get-well-soon card. My five-year-old son is with me, and I know my mom seeing her grandson will cheer her up.
Son: “Mum, why are we buying flowers?”
Me: “Because Grandma is in an ugly hospital room, and the flowers will make it look nice.”
Son: “But the flowers will die, and then the room will be ugly again.”
My mum will sadly be in the hospital for a few weeks (nothing too serious, just age-related issues), so my son has a point.
Me: “We will bring her more flowers when the old ones die.”
Son: “Lego sells flowers now! We can build them with her, and they will last forever!”
That… is actually not a bad idea. I’ve seen their flower range, and while they might cost more, it will be a nice gift from grandson to grandmother, and it’s something he can help her build during the visit. So, off we go to a Lego store to buy a box, and then we go to the hospital.
As soon as my son runs into the room to see his grandma, he shouts loud and proud:
Son: “Grandma! We bought you flowers! You’ll die before these flowers will!”
The strange but irrefutable logic of a five-year-old boy…
