(We are reading an excerpt of a story for a mock test. It’s about a woman who removed the boots of a lover, which caused him to turn into a mackerel. The teacher is currently out of the room.)
Classmate #1: “I don’t understand this text! What’s going on?”
Me: “Have you read it through critically?”
Classmate #1: “Yes, I understand that he turned into a mackerel! But why?”
Classmate #2: “Because it’s meant to represent her changing something abou—”
Classmate #1: “But why a mackerel? They’re so ugly!”
Me: *facepalm*
