Exceptionally Stupid

Caller: “I don’t have receipts or proof of purchase for this [damaged] item; can’t you just cover it?”

Me: “I’m sorry, sir, but we need proof of purchase. I can’t make exceptions.”

Caller: “I’m not asking you to make an exception; I just want you to pay me for it.”

Me: “I can’t make exceptions; we need some sort of proof. A receipt, card statement, a reprint from the store—“

Caller: “I’M NOT ASKING FOR AN EXCEPTION; JUST COVER IT WITHOUT PROOF!”

Me: “What do you think an exception is?”
