Es-pwñ-ol, Part 4
I work in a big box retail store. This story is from back when plasma TVs were new and expensive.
Customer: “Hey, you got any more of those Plasmas from Black Friday?”
Me: “Sir, that was last week. We sold out of those on day one.”
Customer: “But you got more in stock now, right?”
Me: “We have new TVs in stock, but they’re regular price.”
Customer: “So you’re not gonna give me some kind of discount?”
Me: “The sales are over, sir, so no.”
Customer: “You’re just doing that because I’m Latino!”
Me: “Uh, sir. The sales ended for everyone at the same time.”
Customer: “Yeah, but if I were White, you’d hook me up with a discount, right?”
Me: “Sir, this is a big box store with over a hundred employees in a diverse part of the country. I can think of two Latino managers on duty right now that could come over here and explain how expiry dates work for you, if you like?”
Customer: “…whatever. I bet your sales sucked anyway.” *Moves along.*
