Enough To Make One Lose One’s Lunch
(A woman says she was rear-ended several hours prior. She denies any pain or physical injury. She asks us to hurry and “see her quick.” There are other patients in the ER.)
Me: “What is concerning you today?”
Patient: “My insurance says I have to be checked. And I haven’t had lunch. I went to the insurance office first.”
Me: “What happened? Where are you hurting?”
Patient: “I’m not hurting, but I would like an egg salad sandwich.”
