Enjoyment In Employment

| Working | September 26, 2013

(It’s after work, and I’m shopping. I’m still in my work gear but have it covered up. I bump into someone I used to work with.)

Ex-Coworker: “Hey [My Name]! I heard you left; do you regret it?”

Me: “I didn’t leave; I was made redundant. A lot of us were.”

Ex-Coworker: “Ha, that sucks. I left just before that, got a big lump sum. You’re not working then?”

Me: “Nope, I got a job.”

Ex-Coworker: “Oh, you work here now?! Ha, that’s funny.”

Me: “Nope, I work at [big engineering company], basically doing the same job but for a whole lot more money.”

Ex-Coworker: “Oh.”

Me: “Funny, I don’t see your work gear.”

Ex-Coworker: “Er… well I’m taking a break for a bit. Er… I’ve got to go.”
