Email Fail, Part 47
Me: “You’re through to [Internal Company] tech support. How can I help you?”
Office Manager: “I need a custom email generated for one of my new starters.”
Me: “I can see that we generated a new email for your new starter following the standard format of first name initial, middle name initial, and surname. You need to submit a ticket with a good reason as to why you want to break from the naming protocol.”
Office Manager: “The new guy is called Alan Norman Alcock.”
Me: *Not skipping a beat* “I’ll change that just initials for you, sir.”
Office Manager: “That would be appreciated.”
My boss eventually called me out on doing something that should have required a ticket. I asked him if he’d read the notes on the report. Once he did, he didn’t bring it up again.
