Email Fail, Part 45
I do in-home computer repair. A client of mine, an elderly lady, is getting NDRs (i.e. bounce-back emails) from her ISP because she keeps sending emails to non-existent addresses. If you have ever mistyped an email address, you’ve probably received a similar email from “postmaster at [Your ISP] dot com”.
Me: “I see the problem. We call these bounce-backs because—”
Client: “Well, these bounce-backs only happen on weekends! The weekend email sorter isn’t as good as the weekday sorter!”
Me: “Uh… what do you mean?”
Client: “The person who handles my emails during weekdays never makes these kinds of mistakes!”
Me: “The postmaster account isn’t an actual Postmaster, ma’am. Your emails aren’t handled or distributed by a mailman.”
Client: “What nonsense! It’s still mail!”
She refused to believe me and proceeded to compose a new email to “postmaster at [Her ISP] dot com” demanding to know why the weekend postmaster wasn’t as well trained as the weekday postmaster.
I just left a note on her account saying, “Old lady believes that all emails are handled/distributed by mailmen,” and let someone else take her call next time.
