A Helpless Situation

(I broke my arm and am doing everything one handed. At the grocer’s salad bar I fill my box but am having trouble closing it one handed. I ask a woman perusing goods in the case next to me:)

Me: “Excuse me, would you be able to help me?” *gestures broken arm*

Woman: “You should have brought someone to help you.”

(A man nearby kindly assists me and I go on shopping. Afterwards I am putting my groceries in my car as is the woman I’d seen earlier, her car slightly uphill from mine. The lot is on a slight incline and the woman loses control of her bags and her fruit begins rolling down the hill. At the same time the gentleman who helped me is walking up the hill.)

Woman: *calling out* “Could pick up my fruit?”

Man: “I guess you should have brought someone to help you.”

(He stepped over her fruit and walked past, giving me a wink.)
